Nellie
Ma'am started Maria's
House of children
with one child on
the 18th of Aug.
1988. Today Mari's
is one of the growing
schools in the city,
over 1000 students.
Moreover it employs
more than 100 teachers.
It is one of the
most reputed school
in Guwahati. Over
the years there
has been noticeable
improvement in the
academic activities
and it has worked
hard to come to
the present stage.
the school, keeping
in lime with its
philosophy ''beyond
class-room'' have
established its
position in all

the areas-academic, as well
as extra curricular. A school
today possesed a good number
of teachers who have been
their from the beginning
apart from fresh recruitment
from time to time.
My association with Nellie
Ma'am has been for such
a long time and I have
been able to understand
and realise about her
action in the formative
years she undertook and
these are precisely the
grounds on which I give
full credit to Nellie
Ma'am for making the school
what it is today.
I wish her best of luck
for her future plans to
make the school a better
place for the children,parents
as well as teachers and
staff. I also wish she
would continue to receive
support from all concerned
for all time to come.

On
recieving the National
Teachers Award, 2004
 |
On
the 5th September
of 2005, at a beautifully
organized function
at Vigyan Bhavan,
New Delhi, His Excellency,
the President, the
Honourable Prime
Minister and Mr.
Arjun Singh, the
Minister for Human
Resource took time
off to honour teachers
from all across
the country. They
spoke of the past
when Indiansrevered
their Gurus and
held their teachers
in high esteem.
They regretted that
time had changed
all that and it
was unfortunate
that today few opted
for a career in
teaching.
|
|
They emphasised that
teaching was a noble
profession and that
teachers held the
key to determining
the quality of India's
future citizens. |
It was a privilege for
me to be among those who
received the prestigious
'National Award' from
President A.P.J. Kalam,
who is himself a teacher
and a scholar par excellence.
I have been teaching children
from middle class homes
in simple down to earth
schools, always attempting
to keep pace with the
time. I am touched therefore
to receive this acknowledgement
as it draws attention
to the insurgency racked
North East where education
is perhaps the only key
better world.
I have enjoyed being a
teacher and learnt much
from my interactions with
my superiors, colleagues,
staff and parents. I count
amongst my blessing my
students who have kept
me on my toes forcing
to reinvent and retool
myself. Being a teacher
has helped me to discover
myself, broadened my horizons
and be a part of the brave
new and changing world.
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all
the parents who have been
generous in expressing
their good wishes.

Dear Children,
We were very happy
to be with your Mummy/Daddy
on 11th June'05, when
they came to attend the
parents counseling meet.
There is so much to learn
through sharing of ideas,
listening to experienced
people like Mr. K.K. Gupta.
The whole idea of the
meet was to help the child
grow into a good human
being.
Parents and teachers must
learn to accept the child
as he/she is initially,
and as they grow, help
them to grow to their
fullest ability. Under
standing, love, affection
and patience go a long
way in guiding them.
We have received quite
a few letters of appreciation
from parents & we
thank them through this
column.

MY EXPERIENCE AS A
TEACHER
Maria Montessori House
of Children and Maria's
Public School was known
as yet unknown to me until
recently when I got the
opportunity to work for
a few months.
I came to know the children
and the teachers well
and soon became good colleagues
and friends. It is really
good to see the co-operation
and the team work of the
school staff, barring
any competitive feelings
and among them which I
felt is a positive sign
for the progress of the
school.
I consider myself very
fortunate to be a part
of the Grand Carnival
- organized by Maria's
Public School to raise
funds for the Tsunami
victims and special children.
During this time, I witnessed
the efforts and the teamwork
of the students and the
teacher to make this event
a success.
Maria Montessori House
of Children will always
hold a special place in
my heart because of the
"Special Children"
that the School educates
and nurtures, which I
think could not be found
in other Schools of the
city. I always wanted
to be with them and see
them grow in a very normal
and healthy environment.
Lastly, I whole heartily
the staff and the children
for making me feel as
one of them and giving
me an experience which
I will cherish for posterity.

CARNIVAL
AT MARIA'S
The word ' Carnival'
itself brings out the
mood of festivities and
enjoyment along with entertainment.
This time we the people
of 'Maria's had turned
this Carnival as a fund-raiser
for the bereaved people
of the great Natural Disaster
caused by Tsunami. Our
Carnival was held on Sunday
6th of February '05 at
the Geetanagar School
Playground.
Our
Carnival started with
the arrival of our Chief
Guest Mrs. Anjali Barua
along with the Director
Mrs. Nellie A. Tanweer,
Principal Mrs. Maya Choudhury
and Vice-Principal Mrs.
Krishna Datta and all
other staff members of
Maria's Public School
and 'Maria Montessori
House of Children'. The
stalls were beautifully
decorated with hands-made
charts by the teaching
staff. Varieties of stalls
like Home-Wonders Games.
Puppet show attracted
the kids the Lucky Dips
and plenty of food items
were worth mentioning.
The grand Lottery Draw
made the people wait with
bated breath to know who
would take the car home.
Songs by the renowned
singers Lou Majaw and
Felix Presley from Shillong,
enthralled the audience
and kept them captivated
till the end. The talented
musicians of our school
band showed their skills
with Satyakee D Com Bhuyan
anchoring the show throughout
the day.

CHILDREN
AS THE BACKBONE OF OUR
NATION
The great thinker
Swami Vivekananda rightly
said that 'Education is
the manifestation of the
perfection which is already
in a child'. Children
have the inherent talents
inside them. It is through
proper guidance and a
strong educational base
that they can enhance
these talents to creative
heights.
The
future of a nation depends
on the children. If children
become healthy physically,
mentally and spiritually,
definitely the nation
will prosper in the right
direction. Therefore proper
education is very important
for the children.
Just
as a building remains
stable and can face all
the adversities like earthquake
, storm, etc. if the fountain
is properly made. Similarly
if proper education can
be impaired to a child
then he or she becomes
perfect human being in
life and can face all
adversities of life without
difficulties. Therefore
the teachers, parents
and society at large are
equally responsible to
mould a child to be perfect
by giving proper education.
